Technology firm Huawei has announced its plan to empower through education 70 female university students through its Seeds for the Future project.
The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative gears towards nurturing local talent, sharing knowledge, raising awareness, and inspiring the youth for the ICT sector, runs from
September 4 to September 11, 2023.
This year’s project like the previous ones starts with a mentorship program and closing ceremony set for September 15, 2023.
Also, it will provide an intensive eight-day online training course for its participants.
This training will introduce beneficiaries to industry-relevant courses encompassing 5G, Cloud Computing, AI, and Digital Power.
Beyond technical education, the program will feature a Career Guidance Session, an Entrepreneurship Tech Talk, and a Tech4Good global competition designed to encourage innovative tech solutions addressing societal issues.
Notably, the Tech4Good competition will present substantial financial backing, with a $100,000 startup fund awarded to the top-performing teams.
These successful teams will also earn the opportunity to partake in a Startup Sprint event in China, affording them real-world business experience.
Joining the virtual launch on Friday, September 1, Ama Pomaa Boateng, the Deputy Communications Minister, commended Huawei for the endeavour, stating that nurturing young talents in the tech space will go a long way to boost the industry.
"As a Ministry championing the “Girls in ICT” initiative, I am glad to say that this training, is a step in the right direction. The Ministry of Communications and Digitalization will continue to throw its weight behind such talent development initiatives for an inclusive and sustainable digital economy," Mrs Boateng said.
"In kickstarting this 8-day journey focused on shaping your career path and introducing you to advanced courses revolutionizing the telecommunications industry, I urge you to make the best out of this training to stay at the forefront of the industry’s developments.
"This training on 5G, Cloud Computing, AI and Digital Power will equip you with the relevant industry skills to stay competitive in the job market. Some of your predecessors have made significant strides in the telecommunications industry leveraging this opportunity. We hope you won’t be an exception.
"The future is digital and in it lies an array of unlimited possibilities for those who pursue it. Take advantage of this opportunity to learn from the best, explore new opportunities and build valuable networks that can benefit you both professionally and personally".
On his part, Kweku Essuman Quansah, Deputy Managing Director of Huawei Ghana, revealed that the 2023 program would provide a $100,000 startup fund to support the project ideas of the top three teams.
He stated that the program aimed beyond technical training, encouraging participants to make a tangible impact.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, this program is more than technical training! It’s an initiative aimed at encouraging participants to make a tangible impact.
"Huawei, in pushing this agenda will provide a $100,000 startup fund to support the project ideas of the top three groups.
"These outstanding students will also get the opportunity to attend the Startup Sprint event in China, to gain real-world business experience".
