President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has stated his commitment to develop the Oti Region despite the fact that the 2020 parliamentary election did not favour the NPP in the region.

The President, who was speaking at a meeting with the Chiefs of Oti Region at Dambai, said the NPP did its best in the 2020 elections even though it was not enough.

According to President Akufo-Addo, in spite of the outcome of the 2020 parliamentary election, he is happy that the presidential results were better compared to the previous election.

He, however, urged the residents to be reminded of the many projects initiated by the NPP led government and be appreciative.

"We couldn't win the parliamentary in the 2020 election but we did our best in the presidential even though it was not enough.  I urge you all to be reminded of the good things the government did for you and be appreciative," the President said

He added that, despite all these, he remains committed to developing the region and called on the people to support and vote for the NPP in the 2024 elections.

The President of the Regional House of Chiefs, Nana Mprah Besemuna III said within one and half years, the Oti Region can boast of  several projects like Roads Department office, Regional Health Directorate, other regional offices among other developmental projects initiated by the Akufo-Addo-led administration.

Nana Mprah Besemuna noted that even though it is sad that the Oti Region could not contribute any seat to the NPP in the 2020 elections, despite the President's efforts at bringing development to the people, he believes that being the astute politician the President is, he understands the beauty of democracy.

"It is sad that the Oti Region could not produce even one parliamentary seat but we can apologise and urge you to put this behind you and focus on the vision of your developmental agenda for the Oti Region, that at the end of your term, you can boast, the region can boast of your legacy, "Nana Besemuna said.

On the road sector, the Chief noted that work on the Nkwanta/Dambai Road though is in progress but at a very slow pace. He appealed to the Minister to speed it up and also have the work on the Kete Krachi town roads completed on schedule.

Nana Mprah Besemuna also appealed for a comprehensive urban water system to be considered. This is to ensure that they have access to potable water. He also called for improved power supply and most importantly, a bridge over the Oti River at Dambai.

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Mr. Kwesi Amoako-Atta said the entire Eastern Corridor roads have been awarded to contractors who are on-site working. He added that 31 Road projects are currently ongoing in the Oti Region

The Ministry of Finance has granted a mandate letter for a company in Netherlands to begin the construction of the bridge on the Oti River this year.

"31 road projects are currently ongoing in the Oti Region and there are plans to get funds for the construction of the bridge on the Oti River," Mr Amoako-Atta said.
