The Finance Minister-designate, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has pledged to prioritise efficiency and fiscal discipline in the use of state resources.
Speaking during his vetting before the Appointments Committee of Parliament, Dr Forson emphasised the need to eliminate waste in government spending as a key strategy to stabilise the nation’s economy.
He asserted his commitment to ensuring that Ghana’s resources are utilised judiciously, adding that wasteful expenditures must be curtailed.
“Governance is not about borrowing and borrowing,” Dr Forson stated. “It’s time to cut the waste, and I’ll lead the charge.”
Dr Forson also acknowledged the importance of collaboration with development partners to secure affordable financing when necessary.
He assured the Committee that, while reducing waste is his primary focus, he remains open to working with partners to raise low-cost funds should the need arise.
His remarks highlight a shift in fiscal management priorities, with an emphasis on accountability and sustainability.
Dr Forson asserted that his approach aims to rebuild trust in public financial management while addressing the economic challenges facing Ghana.
