Immigration officials at the Aflao border will be tested for Covid- 19, the Chief Supt at the Aflao border command has said.
Chief Supt Duodu said this has become very necessary because his men came into contacts with foreign nationals crossing the unapproved routes along the Ghana-Togo border over the last weeks.
Six foreigners have since tested positive to the virus in the Ketu South District.
Chief Supt Fred Duodu stated that his men are upbeat about the news of the positive cases and preparations are underway to let them the test.
Immigration officials at the borders are playing a frontline role in the fight against the deadly Coronavirus. Securing the country’s borders exposed them greatly to foreigners including possible carriers of the virus.
The officers have so far intercepted over fifty foreigners who made their way through unapproved routes into Ghana since the closure of Ghana's eastern borders.
Ghana has so far recorded 566 confirmed cases with eight deaths.
President Akufo-Addo has by Executive Instrument extended the border closure until further notice.
Meanwhile citizens in the border town, Aflao are on the edge as most of them lament of economic hardship due to the border closure.
The once economically vibrant town is dead increasing the number of motorbikes popularly called ‘okada’ as a stopgap measure to cope with the situation.
Volta region which shares a boundary with both Greater Accra and Eastern region has also recorded nine cases of the Coronavirus leaving many market centres closed by the authorities.
