An appeal has gone to the Ghana Education Service (GES) to make the teaching of French in the Primary School a priority to help unearth aptitudes and generate interest at the Junior/Senior High Levels.
Mr. Andrew Amoh Koranteng, Chairman of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of the Ejisu M/A Experimental Junior Secondary School, made the appeal at a general meeting on Friday to discuss the school’s performance in the BECE.
The appeal was necessitated by the generally poor performance of the school’s candidates in French in this year’s examination and attributed the situation to the late introduction of the rudiments of the subject which makes students to become repulsive to it, perceiving the language as difficult.
He maintained that, the need for the study of French at the Primary level is more urgent now than any other time in the face of globalization and also for the fact that Ghana is geographically surrounded by Francophone countries.
He hoped that, the performance of the Junior High School students would be improved upon if they started learning the subject from primary four.
Mr. P.H.K Amuah, Managing Director of YOTHAM Enterprise based at Fumesua, urged the parents to invest in their wards’ education and advised them to desist from attacking teachers while on duty to enable the teachers have the peace of mind to teach the students.
On her part, Mrs. Gladys Asante Addih, Headmistress of the school appealed to parents to cultivate the habit of visiting their wards at school to acquaint themselves with how their wards were performing.
She appealed to parents to supervise the movements of their wards at home to study hard.
