WARRI – A kidnapper, who was drafted to keep watch over Mrs. Akiefa, wife of a Niger-Delta activist, Mr. Frank Akiefa, abducted last Saturday and kept in their den at Orogun community near Ughelli, Delta State, fell into deep sleep, after eating the snacks bought for the victim by one of his colleagues.
The woman, who observed that her abductor had fallen asleep, scaled the window of the makeshift detention camp and escaped.
Vanguard learnt that his fellow kidnappers, who had already made a request for ransom were dumbfounded when they came back to find that the woman had escaped while their colleague-in-arms slept.
“It was nothing short of a miracle by the Almighty God,” a former militant told Vanguard in Warri, adding, “one of the kidnappers guarding her actually went to buy gala for the woman to eat. When he brought it, the woman changed her mind and the boy ate the gala and drank the water.
“Few minutes after eating the snacks and drinking water, he fell asleep and the woman thought he was pretending. But, behold, he started snoring deeply.
“Without wasting time, the victim knew there was a supernatural power at work and could not wait a minute longer. She jumped through the window and escaped.”
Mr. Akiefa confirmed that his wife was actually kidnapped, but that she had escaped from the kidnappers’ den.
