Aide to ex-president John Rawlings is cautioning against a possible decision to allow embattled Ivorian President Laurent Gbagbo access to Ghana as an exile destination.
Kofi Adams believes such a decision will give credibility to allegations that Ghana’ president John Mills is an ally to Gbagbo.
Speaking on Joy FM’s news analysis programme News File on Saturday, Mr Adams said the proximity of Ghana to the troubled West African country makes it imprudent to allow Gbagbo to use Ghana as a safe haven.
There are unconfirmed reports that Gbagbo might just be considering Ghana as a place of exile in order to end the post-election violence.
But Kofi Adams said it will be wrong if Ghana should take him up on that offer.
According to him, Gbagbo is likely to be indicted by the International Court of Justice, which has began its investigations into the matter and would be unwise for Ghana to be tainted.
He however stressed that the embattled leader still remains crucial in the process of reconciliation and must not be killed in the ongoing battle by rival forces.
“If he loses his life today, it will be dangerous,” he said, cautioning the UN and other organizations to be cautious.
