EXPLORING THE UNTAPPED TOURISM POTENTIAL OF SEKYERE KUMAWU DISTRICT – STATEMENT BY THE MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT FOR KUMAWU CONSTITUENCY, HON. ERNEST YAW ANIM.

Mr. Speaker, I would first like to begin by expressing my appreciation at being afforded the opportunity to make my first statement on the floor of the noble house.

I would also like to thank the leadership of the majority caucus for their guidance and advice within my short by fast-paced few weeks as the member of parliament for Kumawu constituency.

I rise today to shed light on the extraordinary tourism potential held within the beautiful district of Sekyere Kumawu, nestled in the heart of Ghana's Ashanti Region, which if nurtured can become a great tourist attraction in the country.

Mr. Speaker, Sekyere Kumawu is a district blessed with an abundance of breathtaking natural wonders. Its most prized treasure, the Bomfobiri Wildlife Sanctuary, stands as a sanctuary for an array of fascinating creatures, encompassing a diverse range of birds, baboons, crocodiles, and buffalos.

Furthermore, this sanctuary boasts an attractive rainforest and a woodland savannah, adorned with plush green vegetation that entices visitors. Additionally, within Sekyere Kumawu, one can discover remarkable attractions such as the Lion Stone – which is a naturally carved stone resembling a lion, the Stone Bridge, and the magnificent Waala Waterfalls.

Moreover, the district proudly embraces a unique cultural heritage that permeates through its traditions, festivals, and traditional stories, captivating the imagination of all who visit.

It is my firm belief that when fully harnessed the potential held within the district can be unprecedented. With such remarkable strengths at its disposal, Sekyere Kumawu has the potential to blossom into a premier tourism destination.

It boasts a flourishing biodiversity, providing nature enthusiasts with an unparalleled experience.

The district's distinctive cultural heritage weaves a captivating tale, providing visitors with a breathtaking experience of its customs and traditions.

Additionally, its convenient location ensures easy access for travelers, making it an enticing choice for explorers seeking a memorable experience.

Mr. Speaker, it is important to acknowledge the existing weaknesses that hinder Sekyere Kumawu from fully realizing its tourism potential. Insufficient tourism infrastructure poses a significant challenge, impeding the seamless experience of visitors.

Inadequate marketing efforts have failed to showcase the district's unique offerings, leaving its treasures hidden from the world. Additionally, a shortage of skilled workers in the tourism sector has become an obstacle to growth.

Yet, in the face of these obstacles, I firmly believe that Sekyere Kumawu possesses the latent power to thrive as a premier tourism hub within Ghana.

By directing the necessary investments and unwavering support, we can foster the development of essential tourism infrastructure and implement effective marketing strategies that will captivate visitors from all corners of the globe.

I implore the government to carefully consider the vast tourism potential held within Sekyere Kumawu and extend the vital support needed to catalyze the growth of the district's tourism industry.

Moreover, it is crucial to recognize the opportunities and threats that lie ahead for Sekyere Kumawu in the tourism sector. The growing interest in ecotourism presents a promising opportunity, as the world increasingly values sustainable travel experiences.

Furthermore, the growth of tourism can act as a catalyst for local economic development, generating employment opportunities and driving entrepreneurship within the community.

Leveraging governmental focus and international grants can provide a solid foundation for the district's tourism expansion.

I hold steadfast in my belief that Sekyere Kumawu possesses the spirit to overcome these challenges and ascend to become a premier tourism destination within Ghana.

Nevertheless, urgent action is required to address the deficiencies in tourism infrastructure and formulate a comprehensive strategy for this to happen.

In closing, I implore the government to recognize and harness the untapped tourism potential of Sekyere Kumawu by providing the indispensable support needed to propel the district's tourism industry forward.

Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
