Kumasi Asante Kotoko striker, Kwame Opoku, has received a call-up to the Ghanaian national team, the Black Stars, for the upcoming Unity Cup in London.
This marks his return after a four-year absence after featuring for the four-time Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winners during Charles Kwablan Akonnor's regime.
Black Stars' head coach Otto Addo included Opoku as one of the four home-based players in the squad for the four-nation tournament, recognising his impressive form for Kotoko.
This season, Opoku has scored nine goals in 16 appearances for the Porcupine Warriors since rejoining the club in January.
Opoku, who has three caps for Ghana, made his debut in the 2021 AFCON qualification match against South Africa, where he played alongside fellow Kotoko teammate Abdul Ismail Ganiyu.
The Black Stars will face arch-rivals the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the semi-finals on May 28, 2025.
The winner will advance to the final against either Jamaica or Trinidad and Tobago on May 31 at the Gtech Community Stadium.
