The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has commended Ghanaians for their support and participation in the third edition of Green Ghana Day.
“This Project would not have been successful without your contribution" the ministry noted in a statement.
“On behalf of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and on my personal behalf, I wish to thank the entire country, profoundly, for your immense support and participation in the third edition of Green Ghana Day,”portions of the gratitude statement indicated.
It went on to thank the President, Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia for their vision, involvement and dedication towards the Green Ghana project.
The Ministry further extended its felicitation to the “Speaker of Parliament, Alban S.K. Bagbin, the Chief Justice and the Judiciary, the Chairman and Members of the Council of State, the Chief of Staff, Mrs. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, the Asantehene, HRM Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Okyehene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, the Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa Naa Abubakari Mahama II, the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, the President and Members of the National House of Chiefs, the Clergy, our Traditional Rulers, Ministers of State, Members of Parliament, Members of the Diplomatic Corps, Civil Society Organizations (CS0s), Members of the Security Services, the various Ministries, the Ghana Education Service, Corporate Ghana, among others, for their exemplary leadership by leading their people and staff to take part in the Green Ghana Day.”
The Ministry also entreated all who took part in the planting of seedlings during the Green Ghana Day to nurture the seedlings planted into maturity.
“With collective action, we can make Ghana Green again,” it added.
The Green Ghana Day was instituted in 2021 by the government, under the auspices of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, as part of an aggressive afforestation and reforestation programme to restore the lost greenery in the country.
At the maiden edition, over seven million trees were planted, exceeding the target of five million trees. And last year, over twenty-four million trees were planted, exceeding the target of twenty million trees.
This year, a total of 10 million seedlings were planted across the country, with the over 30 million that were planted in 2021 and 2022 being nurtured.
