The Chief Executive Officer of Hempire Agric Ghana Limited (HAGL), Nana Kwaku Agyemang, has called on the government to hasten the legalisation of cannabis in the country.
While speaking at a press briefing in Accra on Tuesday, Nana Kwaku Agyemang, stated that his organisation is willing to contribute thirty million US dollars to support the economy.
“What I am saying is this, government should give us 2,000 acres of land to cultivate cannabis and we assure government of paying thirty million US dollars as incentives, that way, we will not be burdened with e-levy or whatsoever”, Mr. Agyemang noted.
Mr. Agyemang also revealed his organisation’s support for the one-district-one-factory initiative by government saying, “we are going to build a hundred-bed facility hospital in Gyapong in the Volta Region.”
“We also intend to build a rehabilitation centre in the country once we have our license”, he added.
A biochemist, Kojo Brown Aryee, explained the usefulness of cannabis. He mentioned that aside from its medicinal purposes, cannabis could also be used for cosmetics and construction purposes.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Director-General of Narcotic Control Commission, Michael Addo, has debunked claims by some health experts saying that “what has been legalised for cultivation is different from what people consume for recreational purpose.”
“What parliament has approved contains tetrahydro cannabinol (THC) level not more than 0.3% and it has no effects on the human brain”, he said.
