The Bole Magistrate Court in the Savannah Region has sentenced a Sawla-based notorious 45-year-old livestock dealer, Kiro Kipo, to a fine of 100 penalty units or, in default, six months of hard labor in prison.
The convict, who pleaded guilty to the offence of causing harm under Section 69 of Act 29/60, was sentenced on his own plea after stabbing his victim and leaving him in a pool of blood.
He has since paid both the fine and an additional GHS 2,414 in compensation to the victim to assist with medical expenses.
The victim, whose name is withheld, recounted his ordeals with disappointment.
According to him, "I wasn't happy when the matter was held in the magistrate Chambers instead of open court."
"You can come to Sawla town and ask about Kipo [the convict] attitudes in town. I'm the fourth victim to have such attacks but anytime he is taken to the police or court, he comes back and fools the more. Yes, he paid the fine with ease, and I still don't understand why the court chose to hear the case in the Chambers, same with the fine instead of open court," he bemoaned.
According to him, he approached the convict for help in rescuing a person lying helpless in a nearby bush near the convict’s house. However, the convict became emotional and suddenly stabbed him multiple times.
He said it took the intervention of a herdsman, who saw him running and came to his rescue.
The teacher added that right after the incident, he went to the Sawla Police Station, only to find his attacker already there, falsely accusing him of being the owner of the knife and the one who had attacked first.
"A police officer who had earlier on seen the convict with the same knife during his livestock business in the market, confronted him [convict], and he admitted to the crime and was arraigned before court and was convicted", he stated.
Meanwhile, Myjoyonline.com's checks in Sawla confirmed that, until this current case, Kiro Kipo, is known for his no-nonsense behavior and was always armed with the knife.
