Parliament on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 approved to the final batch of Deputy Ministers-designate after being vetted by the Appointments Committee.
However, the approval of four nominees did not go down well with the Minority, causing them to stage a walk-out.
The four nominees whose approval has been rejected by the Minority are; Deputy Minister-Designate for Local Government & Decentralization, Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah, Deputy Minister-Designate for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Lariba Zuewira Abudu, Amidu Issahaku Chinnia, the Minister-Designate for Sanitation and Water Resources and Diana Asonaba Dapaah, Deputy Minister-Designate for Ministry of Justice and Attorney-General’s Department.
The Minority argued that they could not participate in the approval because their members on the Appointments Committee were absent during the vetting of the nominees as they were undertaking a national duty of planting trees per the directive of the Speaker of Parliament.
So, tonight on PM Express, host Evans Mensah and his guests will discuss the topic, 'Ministerial Approvals: Politics versus national interest'.
The guests are; Chairman of Appointments Committee and MP for Bekwai, Joseph Osei-Owusu, Executive Director of Africa Centre for Parliamentary Affairs, Dr Rasheed Draman and Deputy Minority Leader and MP for Ketu North, James Klutse Avedzi.
