President John Mahama has wasted no time in rolling out a series of decisive reforms and directives aimed at addressing critical issues in Ghana, setting the tone for his administration’s focus on governance and accountability.
The measures, announced in the first few days of his presidency, highlight his commitment to delivering on campaign promises and prioritizing the needs of Ghanaians.
One of the most notable decisions is the reduction in the number of ministries from 30 to 23, a move aimed at cutting down government expenditure and promoting efficiency.
This bold step aligns with calls for a leaner government structure to better manage the country’s resources.
In another directive, President Mahama has requested a comprehensive report from the Inspector General of Police (IGP) on the deaths that occurred during the 2020 and 2024 elections.
This measure is seen as a critical step toward ensuring justice and accountability for lives lost during the electoral process.
To address concerns about the management of state lands, the President has ordered a halt on all sales of state lands and has requested a detailed report from the Lands Commission on all such transactions within 14 days.
This directive is expected to enhance transparency and prevent further loss of public assets.
President Mahama has also signalled his commitment to restoring free speech by reversing the “culture of silence” that has pervaded public discourse in recent years.
As part of this effort, he has directed the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) to highlight challenges associated with the implementation of the Free Senior High School (SHS) program.
This initiative seeks to foster open dialogue and address the program’s shortcomings.
In a bid to make religious pilgrimages more affordable, the President has set up a seven-member committee to ensure the reduction of fees associated with the pilgrimage to Mecca.
This move aims to ease the financial burden on prospective pilgrims and uphold religious equity.
