A man known as Emmanuel Addai has allegedly ‘chewed” the wife’s ear in a disturbing incident of domestic violence.
The incident occurred at “Wonkayaw”, a community in Dambai township of the Krachi East Municipality of the Oti Region.
Madam Cecilia Fordjour, the 46-year-old wife, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that she had her ear bitten off by her husband during a violent altercation.
According to Madam Fordjour, the incident happened after she had prepared food for the family and was with the children when her husband returned from a funeral in the area.
She alleged that without any provocation, her husband demanded she leave the house immediately, just as she was arranging to serve him food.
According to her, the situation escalated and her husband allegedly attacked her, biting off her ear among other assaults.
Madam Fordjour recounted that when they arrived at a private health facility (KOPAH Clinic) with the severed ear, medical officials informed them that reattachment was unlikely due to the prolonged delay in the house. The ear could no longer be saved.
The incident has been reported to the Krachi East Police Command, and an investigation is underway to ascertain the truth.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Al-Hassan Abdu-Rzak, Divisional Crime Officer of the Dambai Command, confirmed the incident to the GNA.
ASP Abdul-Razak said the woman initially lodged a complaint at the station, and her husband also followed suit, alleging he was beaten, and medical forms were issued to both individuals.
He said investigations into the matter would commence once both parties have been discharged from the hospital.
According to ASP Abdul-Razak, the Police would then review the medical reports and gather further evidence to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
