Manhean Presby Primary 'A' Basic School, Tema New Town in the Tema metropolis has received 100 dual desks from a partnership between the Rotary Club of Tema and Ghana Port and Harbours Authority (GPHA) – Tema Port.

Rotary Club of Tema is a Rotary International service club of professionals, problem solvers and leaders who are deeply passionate about improving the lives of people in the community.

The desks worth Ghs30,000 and were received by the headmistress, teachers and pupils of the school. Members of the Rotary Club of Tema led by the President, Rotarian Linda Anang, and a representative from the Marketing and Public Affairs Office of the Ghana Port and Harbours Authority (GPHA) - Tema port, Mr. George Owusu Ababio made the donation to the school. The dual desks were donated to the school to make sitting in class more comfortable for learners.

Speaking at the event, the President of the Rotary Club of Tema, Rotarian Linda said Rotary International is a service club of professionals, problem solvers, and leaders who are deeply passionate about improving the lives of people in the community. She said the organization is open to all people regardless of race, colour, creed, religion, gender or political affiliation.

"Rotarians are people of action, driven by a desire to create opportunities, strengthen communities and find solutions to tough challenges that affect people in our community and around the world"

"We carry out humanitarian services, encourage high ethical standards in business and professions and also promote goodwill and peace across the globe" she added.

She said a community assessment found Manhean Presby Primary ‘A’ School  in need of basic infrastructure. They then requested assistance from GPHA – Tema Port, and they gladly offered thier support.

"Today, we are excited to unleash the MAGIC OF ROTARY in the Tema Manhean Presby Primary ‘A’ School as we officially present the 100 dual desks to the school. This donation reflects our shared dedication to enhancing educational resources and empowering the next generation of leaders. Together we are making strides towards a brighter future for our children and our community".

"While many schools in our community currently face challenges with basic resources, there is an opportunity for us to come together and advocate for improvements, believing that every child deserves access to quality education, regardless of their background or circumstances.

These dual desks will provide a comfortable and conducive learning environment for the children and will help to improve the quality of education, increase student engagement, and enhance the overall learning experience" she said.

Moreover, President Linda urge the headmistress, Mrs Ama Ahema Kwablah to create a routine maintenance check to repair and refurbish the desks as and when needed. She asked her to ensure that repair kits are kept handy for quick fixes and also informed her of their  visit to the school quarterly to ensure the desks are in good condition and also  gather feedback from the children regarding the usability and comfort of the desks

The headmistress of Manhean Presby  Primary 'A' basic school, Ama Ahema Kwablah was full of appreciation to the group. She said the dual desks will improve teaching and learning in the classroom. She also promised to put good maintenance measures in place to keep the desks from breaking down. The representative from GPHA - Tema port, Mr. George Owusu Ababio was happy to partner the Rotary Club of Tema to make such an important donation to the school.

He said as part of their civic responsibilities, they will offer a helping hand to any group ready to impact positive change in our society. He advised the learners to take their studies seriously to achieve their aims and become role models in their community.

Rotary has 7 areas of focus that aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. They are Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention, Disease Prevention and treatment, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Maternal and Child Health, Basic Education and literacy, Community Economic Development and the Environment.
