Mr Alex Tettey-Enyo, Minister of Education, has called on the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), to help train and sharpen the skills of Ghanaians pursuing higher education in Canada. He said such training would not only enable the beneficiaries contribute meaningfully towards the country's development but also make them self-employed. Mr Tetteh-Enyo made the call when Professor Gerald Farthing, Minister of Education of Manitoba State of Canada, led a three-member delegation to call on him to discuss how to improve education relations between both countries in Accra on Monday. The Manitoba State operates a community schools system, which allows each school to specialise in different programmes. Mr Tettey-Enyo said Ghana had reached a stage where it needed skilful manpower to execute her developmental agenda. He stressed the need for Canadian educational institutions to train Ghanaians in science and technology required to propel the country to a middle income status. Mr Tettey-Enyo expressed gratitude to the delegation for the visit and pledged the Ministry's readiness to work with them to improve education between the two countries. Prof. Farthing said Ghanaians were among high performing students in Canada, excelling in the sciences and engineering. He said educational opportunities abound in Canada, especially Manitoba State and urged Ghanaians interested in acquiring higher education abroad not to hesitate to choose Canada. Source: GNA
