The management of Mo Ibrahim Foundation has approved 12,980 dollars grant for the establishment of a media and governance module at the Journalism and Media Department of African University College of Communication (AUCC) in Accra.
The grant is to support AUCC to regularly and systematically monitor performance of the media in Ghana and the West African Sub-region. Professor Absalom Mutere, Dean of Journalism and Communication Studies Department of AUCC, disclosed this in a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Tuesday.
It said the grant was to assist the University to become a centre of research and training in governance-related aspects of communication and development in Africa and in addition, increase awareness among the students on the role of the media in governance.
Mr Kojo Yankah, President of AUCC, said the partnership was unique to assist Ghana and the sub-region to attain Millennium Development Goal Eight. He explained that it was in accord with AUCC's vision to become Africa's best centre for Journalism, Communication, Information Technology and Business Management to assist in the rapid growth and development of the continent.
Mr Yankah signed the Memorandum of Understanding on behalf of AUCC while Mr Hadeel Ibrahim, Executive Director, signed for the Foundation.
AUCC is affiliated to the University of Ghana, Legon and offers degree and diploma programmes in Communication Studies and Business Administration.
