Ghana’s mobile money sector witnessed a notable surge in activity in April 2025, with the total value of transactions climbing to a record GH¢365.0 billion.
This is according to the Bank of Ghana’s latest summary of economic and financial data, which underscores the sector’s continued momentum and growing influence on the national economy.
The figure reflects a 3.8% increase from the GH¢351.7 billion recorded in March 2025, marking the highest monthly transaction value so far this year.
This steady rise highlights the increasing preference for mobile financial services among individuals and businesses alike, as the nation continues to embrace digital payment solutions.
Alongside the rise in value, the number of transactions also grew, from 764 million in March to 778 million in April.
This increase further demonstrates the central role mobile money plays in enhancing financial access and facilitating daily transactions across the country, especially in areas underserved by traditional banking infrastructure.
The Bank’s data also points to a sustained upward trend in mobile money usage, fuelled by greater mobile phone penetration, the expansion of agent networks, and the user-friendly nature of mobile platforms.
These factors have made mobile money an indispensable tool for financial inclusion and economic participation.
