The Member of Parliament for Suhum, Kwadjo Asante has denied reports that his personal driver was involved in the clash that took place in the constituency among some members of the NPP.
According to him, no cutlass or weapon was picked from his car following the incident as reported by some media outlets.
In a press release, Mr Asante condemned the actions of the party members, stating that it has attracted negative media attention.
“An unfortunate incident happened on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at the funeral of a member of the New Patriotic Party which resulted in some scuffles...I unreservedly condemn the entire occurrence that has attracted negative media and public attention.”
“I wish to state categorically, that my personal driver was not involved in the case, neither was any cutlass nor implement picked from my car, as is being alleged in the media,” he wrote.
The MP called on the Ghana Police Service to expedite investigations into the matter, urging the constituents to be patient while the Police investigate the case.
“My sympathies are with anyone who may have been adversely affected by the incident and I wish the injured a speedy recovery.”
Reports that reached JoyNews on Sunday disclosed that the party’s Lower West Akyem Communications Officer, Bernard Kwesi Amoani, was allegedly slashed on the forehead with a cutlass by the driver of the Suhum MP, during a free-for-all-fight.
The chaos, which happened at the funeral grounds of one Opare, saw supporters of the Member of Parliament, Kwadwo Asante, and a Presidential staffer, Frank Asiedu Bekoe, popularly known as Protozoa, exchanging blows.
The victim was admitted to the Suhum Government Hospital, where he was treated and discharged.
The followers of Mr Asante allegedly made slanderous statements against Protozoa, who is seeking to contest the MP in the party’s next primaries.
Meanwhile Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen, reacting to the clash, said some persons are twisting the facts and putting the blame on he and Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
Debunking such claims, Mr Asante said the conflict had nothing to do with the Vice President and the Trade Minister.
He stated that it is unfortunate the two leaders in the Akufo-Addo government have been brought into the conflict.

“I pray that these eminent leaders of my party, the New Patriotic Party, are accorded the needed respect and dignity. As a party, we abhor any form of violence and wish to passionately call on our members and the public to remain calm and focused.”
Meanwhile, Alan Kyerematen has condemned the act of violence that ensued among the party supporters.
According to Mr Kyeremanten, the ideals of the party have no room for violence, thus the unfortunate incident that has left some persons injured should not be supported by Ghanaians, particularly the rank and file of the NPP.
