One person has been confirmed dead, and at least 37 others have sustained injuries following a fatal road traffic accident at Mankrong on the Accra–Kumasi Highway in the Suhum Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The incident occurred on Sunday, 11 January 2026, involving a 40-seater Zhong Tong bus with registration number AS 7022-21 and a Man Diesel truck, registered GW 3969-U. Both vehicles were reportedly in motion at the time of the collision.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the Suhum Municipal Fire Station received a distress call at 6:59 am and promptly dispatched a rescue team led by Assistant Divisional Officer (ADO) II Bernard Boamah.
Preliminary information indicates that one passenger died at the scene, while 37 others — made up of 21 males and 16 females — sustained varying degrees of injury. Occupants of the truck escaped unhurt.

Some of the injured had already been transported to the Suhum Government Hospital before fire officers arrived at the scene.
In a Facebook post, the GNFS said its personnel worked meticulously to extricate the deceased from the wreckage, assist the injured, and secure the accident scene. The team also cleared debris from the highway, restored traffic flow and ensured the safety of other road users.

An initial assessment revealed extensive damage to the front section of the bus, while the rear of the truck sustained only minor damage.
Eyewitness accounts suggest the bus was travelling at high speed before crashing into the truck. Investigations are ongoing to establish the exact cause of the accident.
