Goalkeeper, Shaibu Rafique Issah made history in the MTN Cup on Wednesday after becoming the youngest ever player to feature for Sekondi Hasaacas FC.
The 14-year-old was given a starting berth as Hasaacas played Bibiani GoldStars in the Round of 64 of the FA Cup in midweek.
Having first been added to the team’s squad list for a fixture earlier this month, Hasaacas head coach, Joseph Agyemang, did not have any doubts of handing the teenager competitive appearance in the cup competition.
For his age, Issah’s appearance against the Ghana Premier League newcomers will see him go down in the history books of the Sekondi-based club despite suffering an exit from the competition.
Issah was a part of the 2021 class of students who undertook their Basic Education Certificate Examination candidates last month.
The shot-stopper completed his Junior High School education at S. D. A Preparatory School Assin Andoe, having lived in the neighborhood since childhood.
Issah was hopeful of making his debut for the club back in December 3, when he was named on the substitutes bench in the 1-0 win over Samartex in Ghana’s Division One League.
The highly-rated goalkeeper could last just 28 minutes on the field in his maiden appearance as he suffered an injury before being substituted.
