Multiple award winning producer Zapp Mallet aka Emmanuel Mallet says he’s disappointed with the apparent decline in music industry in Ghana.
Speaking on Daybreak Hitz with Lexis, Zapp indicated that the industry is taking a nose dive, adding that songwriting isn’t getting any better in terms of composition, production and arrangements.
Speaking passionately, Zapp said it hurts him so much when people say Ghanaians like silly or stupid music “What do you take Ghanaians for?” He queried… “for you to just enter a studio and just put two or three lines of musical rubbish and say you have done music?” He fumed.
Zapp says he has advised people not to underestimate Ghanaians because a time will come when Ghanaians will reject what musicians or anyone is giving them and that will be disastrous.
He noted that he has a problem with a lot of people going to certain studios because these days most of the studios are just a decoration of computers and software.
He revealed that most of these people have not learnt the ropes and technical details of getting good sound so they end up creating distortions in most songs.
He noted that most of the songs being played lately have bad sound quality and are nothing to write home about, adding that some of these things need to be tackled by those in the music industry.
According to the ace producer, the music industry has reached a stage where there is square pegs in round holes, with most of the pretenders in the industry, who would have been better off being footballers, boxers wasting their talents doing music.
Zapp therefore advised upcoming youth to take their time and learn the skills involved in music.
Zapp Mallet studied book publishing in the eighties at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and has since become a music producer.
He is married with two beautiful girls.
He’s responsible for big hits for artistes like Akyeame, Lord Kenya, Blakk Rasta, Naana and Dan among others.
