Members of the National Society of Ghanaian Music Producers (NASGAMP) has congratulated the out-going Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Betty Mould-Iddrisu, for working tirelessly to streamline the operations of the creative arts industry in the country. According to the NASGAMP, Mrs. Betty Mould-Iddrisu has since her appointment to the Ministry done very well to promote efficient copyright administration and restore sanity to the music industry. It would therefore “be a feather in her cap”, if the ongoing process of forming the new body to oversee the collection and payment of royalties and other entitlements to musicians and music producers are completed before she leaves office. A statement signed by John Mensah Sarpong, President of NASGAMP in Kumasi, thanked Mrs. Mould-Iddrisu for the passage of a Legislative Instrument (LI) to allow for effective implementation of the Copyright Act enacted in 2005. It noted that “as an astute Copyright lawyer”, the Minister demonstrated understanding of copyright administration, bringing a lot of improvement to the sector and relative peace in the music industry. The statement said the formation of the CMO to replace the current interim management committee was long overdue and it was the wish of all stakeholders that this was completed before she handed over to her successor. The CMO, it said, was dear to the hearts of all those in the music industry “since it is the life wire of both musicians and producers and it cannot wait.” The statement wished Mrs. Mould-Iddrisu well in her new portfolio and expressed the hope that the new Minister posted to the sector would continue with the good works to enable the music industry to contribute to job creation and wealth creation.
