Reggae musician, Ekow Micah, who is currently in police detention, is facing charges of conspiracy to extort money from Black Stars’ captain, Asomoah Gyan.
The police have obtained phone records and audio recordings in which the suspect is alleged to have acted with a journalist, Osafo Anthony and Sarah Kwabla, who is said to have filed a case of rape and sodomy against Asamoah Gyan.
The three, according to the police, had forged a grand scheme to blackmail the footballer and extort money from him.
The police revealed to Myjoyonline.com that Sarah Kwabla is the ex-girlfriend of Ekow Michah.
Micah’s woes were deepened when a police search at his Kokrobite residence Wednesday revealed a slab of substances suspected to be Indian Hemp.
He is now facing a second count of unlawful possession of narcotic substance.
The case of Ekow Micah, who is the President of the Music Council of Ghana, is part of a complex web of extortion, blackmail, and relationship gone sour involving the Black Stars’ influential captain.
It started with media reports that one Sarah Kwabla had accused the charismatic footballer of sodomising her.
It appeared comical at first because of the disjointed nature of the claims.
This was followed by the release of audio recordings in which a voice resembling that of the Stars’ captain is heard pleading with a lady to delete something from her phone.
In a dramatic twist to the story, the police arrested a journalist, Osafo Anthony, for allegedly trying to extort money from Asamoah Gyan with threats to release sex tapes involving him and the lady unless he paid 25,000 cedis.
Editor of the online portal, ghbase.com, where this reporter works would neither deny nor confirm the charges except to say there was more to the story than the public knew.
The drama kept unfolding and Wednesday August 5, Micah was arrested by the police for being an accomplice of the journalist.
It appears the police are unravelling the conspiracy which lacks sophistication and reasoned calculation.
The Police believe Micah obtained the recordings from Sarah. With this ‘smoking gun’ in hand, he called up the journalist to use his position as a reporter to contact Asamoah Gyan and make the offer.
The police say they hope to process Ekow Micah for court Friday.
