Leaders of Federation of Muslim Women’s Association of Ghana (MOWAG) have appealed to Muslims to invest in the education of their girls. Madam Jemila Osman, a leading member of the Federation called on men to discard the notion that investing in the education of girls was not beneficial since they would eventually become housewives. She pointed out that housewives required good education to effectively manage the home and their children. Madam Osman made the appeal when addressing the 80th Annual Conference of Akyempim Muslim Community at Gomoa Kokofu in the Central Region. Hajia Nafisa Adam, another leading member said education was a right for every child and girls must not be discriminated against on grounds of marriage. Mr Francis Kodjo Arthur, Member of Parliament for Gomoa West, called for unity among Ghanaians to develop the country. Mr Ayouba Mohammed, General Secretary of Akyempim Muslim Community, appealed to Department of Feeder Roads to live up to their responsibility to clear overgrown weeds along roads. He appealed to the government to establish an Islamic Senior High School to promote Islam in the area. Nana Bunyamen Abubakar Yakubu, Sub-Chief of Gomoa Kokofu, said eight out of 25 communities that formed Akyempim Community had not been connected to the national grid and appealed to government to extend electricity to those areas.
