CEO of Groupe Jay N Jay and former beauty queen, Sally Akua Amoakowaa Mensah, popularly known as Akua GMB has opened up about the reason behind the collapse of her CCTV camera business, Ring.
Speaking to Irene Adubea Aning on The Career Trail programme, the entrepreneur stated that, Ring Camera was introduced to help individuals monitor their homes remotely.
Despite the promising start, the technical demands of the system, particularly its internet connectivity requirements, proved a stumbling block for less tech-savvy clients.
The entrepreneur revealed that she was forced to shut down the business due to the constant complaints.
“I introduced Ring into the Ghanaian market. But I was facing some challenges. It is quite technical, in the sense that it uses internet. So if somebody buys it and the person is not technologically inclined, the person will have issues in using it. The challenges we were facing had to do with the fact that the person might not have data. The person will call you, my camera is not working. The person will start talking plenty, you will go and the person is out of data,” she explained.
Undaunted, Akua redirected her entrepreneurial energies, establishing Jay N Jay Productions and Jewel Fashion. In addition to these businesses, she introduced Hugo wine into the Ghanaian market.
Akua commented that the launch of Hugo Wine in Ghana has been a resounding success, and the wine happens to be former President John Agyekum Kuffour’s favorite.
Reflecting on her journey, she urged entrepreneurs to persevere through setbacks and take chance to reboot, re-strategize, and embark on new ventures.
