The National Peace Council has urged the media to ensure accurate coverage of issues ahead of December election in order to maintain peace.
Former Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Professor Kwadwo Nimfour Opoku Onyinah said failure to do so is a common cause of political conflicts which are not wanted in the country.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, he warned the media against being politically aligned in the discharge of its work.
“The role of the media is absolutely essential for building the peace structure of our country. Therefore, we expect that the media will cooperate with the Electoral Commission and the Peace Council so that we would be able to bring peace to the country,” he said.
However, he praised the media for generally contributing to the current peace which prevails in the country.
This comes on the back of various concerns of possible cases of electoral violence in the upcoming elections.
During the recent voters' registration exercise, there were spates of violence that marred the process.
This has caused an increased call for peace between the two major political parties; National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party. (NPP).
