Former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings has called on NDC supporters to help bring on track the leadership of the party who she says have lost their focus after coming to power.
Speaking at a durbar to mark the 32nd anniversary of the June 4 uprising held in Kumasi Saturday, Mrs. Rawlings accused the leadership of sidestepping the core values and noble principles on which the party was formed.
“The time has come to send a message to leaders who have lost a sense of direction to redirect themselves to the path of probity, accountability, honesty, freedom, justice and integrity,” she insisted.
She therefore charged on party supporters to join the crusade to reinstill the values of the party.
“We cannot continue to be on our knees, we cannot continue to be sleeping, we cannot continue to be in this despondent situation,” she charged.
Mrs Rawlings, who is contesting the party’s presidential slot in the July congress, asked party members to be strong, bold and assertive in demanding what is right.
She noted that posterity would not forgive the NDC, which forms the government of the day, if members developed “a wait and see attitude” when things were not in order.
Many other speakers at the June 4 durbar urged delegates to vote for Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings at the NDC’s July Congress.
Her husband and former president, Jerry John Rawlings described the upcoming delegates’ congress of the party as an event which would mark a turning point in the NDC’s calendar.
Former President Rawlings also accused some appointees of the Mills administration of repeating the acts of corruption of the Kufuor government, alleging they were in bed with members of the Kufuor administration in what he called "scratch my back, I scratch your back alliance.
Other speakers included MP Teye Nyaunu and Kofi Adams, spokesperson for the Rawlingses.
