The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Mahama says the party will cater for the medical bills of the people injured in Saturday’s accident.
Six people died on the spot as about 50 people believed to be supporters of the party have sustained various degrees of injuries in a car crash.
They were on their way to rally groups of the former President at Frante in the Ejura Sekyedumase Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
“We will leave some money with the MP to cater for the medical bills of those who are injured and pled with God to grant them good health.”
An entourage led by former President John Mahama visited the Ejura Government Hospital to assess the situation at first hand.
Mahama extended condolences to families of the people who lost their lives, hoping that the party will win the December 7, elections in their honour.
“Our condolences to the families of those who have lost their lives…I made up my mind to end this rally due to what we went to see, but our National Chairman looking at the crowd gathered here said it was not the best thing to do,” he said.
“We are, therefore, doing this in honour or memory to those who have passed on so that come December 7 when victory becomes ours, they would know their labour was not in vain,” he added.
John Mahama was in the company of campaign manager Prof Joshua Alabi, Chairman Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, Ashanti Regional Deputy Secretary of the NDC, Matthew Kojo Njourkone among other party big-wigs in the region.
The accident reportedly happened when the bus conveying the supporters was crossed by a motorcycle resulting in the driver losing control of the truck.
The deceased have been conveyed to the Ejura Government Hospital Morgue while the badly injured are receiving treatment.
