The Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has called on all party members to remain calm at the collation centres as election results continue to be processed.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Mr Gyamfi reassured supporters, saying, "Currently, at all the regional collation centres, our regional executives are present in full force. For those of you in Greater Accra, the regional executives are also there.
"He stressed that once results are declared at the regional level, they cannot be altered. "If the declaration was legally made at the constituency collation centre by the designated returning officer, such as in Obuasi East, those results stand. Nobody can change them at the regional centre," he explained.
Addressing concerns about potential interference in Greater Accra, he firmly stated, "What they are attempting to do in Greater Accra will not happen."
Mr Gyamfi also raised issues concerning constituencies where results had not yet been declared, like Okaikwei Central.
He revealed that some Electoral Commission (EC) officials had allegedly tried, without success, to swap pink sheets. "We are monitoring the situation closely and engaging with the EC at the regional collation office to ensure the right procedures are followed," he said. He also mentioned similar issues in Ablekuma North and other constituencies.
He went on to assure NDC supporters, stating, "Our regional chairman and his executives in the Eastern Region are actively overseeing the process, and we are confident that, in the end, the truth will prevail. Our parliamentary candidates will be declared as the newly elected members of parliament for those constituencies."
In conclusion, Mr Gyamfi urged NDC members to reflect the integrity and character of their leader, John Dramani Mahama. "Let’s not repeat the mistakes of the NPP, who have been rejected by the Ghanaian people. Let us all reflect the persona and character of our leader, John Dramani Mahama, and he will not let us down," he said.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission is set to declare the 2024 presidential results at 4:30 pm today, Monday, December 9.
