Ghana’s power crisis has worsened with the Ashanti region where only 50 megawatts of power is available for distribution being the hardest hit.
Ghana's second largest city requires 200 megawatts of power.
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) says 50 megawatts is only enough to power security installation in the region leaving an estimated 4.8 million residents without power.
Ashanti regional Public Relations Officer of the Electricity Company of Ghana, Erasmus Kyere Baidoo, told JoyNews there is a major generation gap of almost 600 megawatts of power nationwide.
A load-shedding timetable has been thrown completely out of gear with some citizens enjoying only 30 minutes of power in 24 hours in some areas in Accra, the national capital.
JoyNews has also learnt that some of the thermal units at Aboadze in the Western region have been shut down due to lack of fuel, exacerbating already bad energy situation.
