The General Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Dr Justice Yankson says the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has not established cancer treatment centres, as asserted in its 2020 manifesto.
According to him, existing cancer facilities in the country were built prior to the party's promises in 2016.
Speaking on Joy News’ Newsfile, Saturday, September 19, 2020, Dr Yankson quizzed the present government on the evidence of its claims to have “established centres for cancers and covered its cost under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS)”.
“In the last four years, no new specialised centre for cancer treatment have been built.
"It was their intention to have met their promise, but they have not been able to discharge all”.
Dr. Yankson was also positive that the inclusion of breast cancer treatment onto the health insurance scheme may have happened before the NPP was voted into power.
"I think the matter of breast cancer treatment being covered by NHIS may predate the present governments election into office" he said.
