Former President John Dramani Mahama says no new infrastructure will be initiated in his first year in office.

According to him, this will afford his government the space to take stock of uncompleted projects and channel resources into finishing them.

"We will start no new project in the first year and what we will do is to harness all resources that are possible to continue and finish projects that have been left abandoned.

"In the first three months when I come into office, we are going to ask all districts to take inventory of projects that have been abandoned and have come to a standstill and base on that inventory; we will do a budget to include providing resources to finish those projects and then we can look at other projects," he said.

He described the failure of successive governments to continue projects inherited as a setback in Ghana's development trajectory.

The NDC Flagbearer further said, "The tragedy is that, when you are working on things like roads and you develop it to a certain stage and you don't finish it; what happens is that it deteriorate and if you want to do finish it, it becomes even more expensive."

The NDC Flagbearer was speaking in an interview on Woezor TV after completing his three-day tour of the Oti Region.

His comment follows various complains by some chiefs and traditional rulers on the numerous uncompleted projects in their localities.

The leaders also pleaded with the former President to complete them if voted as President.

But Mr. Mahama said it is not going to be a challenge. He promised to change the narrative in 2021 if he finds favour with the electorates to lead the nation.

"In the previous administrations, an effort was made to keep development going and so I haven't seen a case where there is sudden directive to stop work. Projects can be ongoing while you do an audit and make the adjustment where necessary" Mr. Mahama bemoaned.

He also indicated that individuals will be held accountable for abandoning projects that the state made adequate resources available to complete them.
