Farmers in the three northern regions risk losing their livelihoods as a result of changes in the rainfall pattern blamed on climate change.
Senior Programmes Officer at the climate change unit of the Environmental Protection Agency, Dr. Emmanuel Takyi-Obeng, says the farmers are finding it difficult to plant their crops due to the uncertainty in the rainfall pattern.
Several of the farmers are already said to have suffered crop failure as a result of severe drought.
Dr. Takyi-Obeng tells Joy News’ Anny Osabutey, studies conducted show most farms are likely to be washed away in an impending storm.
“We need to have a new planting date; we need to have a new cultiva that will be able to adapt to the new climate change we find ourselves.
This is very important for policy makers…for all of us,” he said.
He wants farmers to be properly oriented.
