NOVA, a wholly owned Ghanaian oil marketing company and a subsidiary of the CH Group, is promoting green energy in Ghana following its donation of clean cooking stoves to local food cooking businesses in Weta in the Volta Region.
There are plans to expand this initiative to other fuel filling stations of the company branded as NOVA.
Speaking at the donation of clean cooking stoves to local food cooking businesses at NOVA Weta fuel filling station Accra-Aflao Road, Weta-Afiadenyigba Junction, the Managing Director of NOVA, Kwasi Zigah explained that they are bringing green energy to those communities as part of their commitment to promote clean cooking, green cooking.
“We want to support the Government of Ghana’s bold vision of carbon neutrality by 2024. Charcoal is carbon intensive so using charcoal for cooking means that you are contributing towards green gas emission. By donating clean cooking stoves to the commercial food cooking operators, we are promoting businesses and taking them off charcoal. We aim to empower women in rural areas and other communities, and the clean cooking stoves we just donated are meant for chop bars and the community hotel”, he added.
By the year 2030, the government is looking at penetrating the cooking market to make sure that we reach 50% penetration. What it means is that every home in Ghana should have clean cooking energy, and NOVA is proud to be a part of that, Zigah stated.
“When you bring in your old cylinder, we will exchange it for you with a new cylinder with gas in it. You simply pay for the gas, and not for the cylinder. We are also able to deliver gas to your doorstep within minutes”.
“My message is that if you have not tried Nova fuel before, maybe you have seen Nova station, but you have not turned in to try us, we urge you to do so because we have quality fuel for you and at the best prices.
Our prices are highly competitive because of who we are. We are part of a bigger group, the CH Group, responsible for importation, storage, and transportation of fuel in Ghana, and we are able leverage on that pedigree to offer quality fuel at great prices”, Mr Zigah stated.
Receiving the clean cooking stoves, the commercial food cooking businesses thanked the company for giving the stoves and promised to use them for the intended purpose.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Ms Mary Poasiegah said: “We are so happy because these days things are very expensive. If we should go and buy these clean cooking stoves from the market right now, they would be very expensive. But NOVA just called us to come for the free clean cooking stoves. We are so very happy for the stoves, and we are very grateful to NOVA for the donation”.
NOVA is the trading name for Westol Petroleum limited, a subsidiary of the CH Group. NOVA currently operates ten fuel-filling stations in Ghana, including Anyaa, Ayanfuri, Nsawam, Shama, Ashaiman, Anaji, Bogoso, Adjinriganor, and Takoradi Nsuaem.
