The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has dismissed media reports suggesting that the Auditor-General’s recent Performance Audit Report uncovered financial losses, corruption or misappropriation within the Authority, insisting that such claims do not reflect the contents of the audit.

In a statement issued on Monday, July 20, the NPA said the Auditor-General’s Performance Audit Report on its operations covering the period from 2023 to 2025 did not establish any financial loss or revenue loss to the Authority.

It stressed that media characterisations describing the report as evidence of “rot”, corruption or financial impropriety were not findings contained in the audit.

The Authority also criticised a publication by The NewsCenta newspaper, stating that the report failed to include management’s responses to the Auditor-General’s findings. According to the NPA, omitting its official response presented an incomplete picture of the audit outcomes.

Reaffirming its commitment to transparency, accountability and sound corporate governance, the Authority said it would continue to work constructively with the Ghana Audit Service.

It added that it would implement appropriate recommendations from the audit to strengthen regulatory oversight, improve operational efficiency and enhance consumer protection in Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector.

The NPA further urged the public to rely only on its official communications regarding the matter, assuring stakeholders of its continued commitment to maintaining high standards of governance and effective regulation within the petroleum industry.
