NPP Ashanti regional chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako has claimed, he influenced the outcome of the opposition NDC parliamentary primaries by giving out monies to delegates.
In an interview on Accra-based Hello FM, the NPP leader, widely known as Chairman ‘Wontumi,’ claimed he had a hand in the defeat of NDC MP for Kumbungu in the Northern region, Ras Mubarak.
Speaking in local dialect Twi, he said ‘money answers all things’, quoting the Bible and added with a chuckle that ‘in politics, money accomplishes a lot of things.’
He said some of the monies were paid directly to delegates and in other cases given to a focal person in the NDC favourably disposed to the NPP’s aims who would then distribute the money to the intended delegates.
Sharing some of his political lessons, he said knowing the weakness of your opponent is vital. The party in the region therefore gets to work looking for ‘those we can work with’.
Chairman ‘Wontumi’ claimed that in some places the party had an interest, he ‘helped’ choose NDC polling station executives, ward executives and also constituency executives.
The goal was to influence the outcome of the NDC parliamentary primaries organised across the country Saturday.
‘You help them to choose a candidate for them. This is what we did,’ Antwi Bosiako said.
The politician laughed off former President Rawlings’ lamentation that money has become a corrupting influence during elections.
