A onetime presidential aspirant of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng says it will be a daunting task for the party to "break the eight" in the 2024 general elections.
According to the celebrated heart surgeon and founder of the National Cardiothoracic Center, the goodwill the party had in 2016 has been depleted.
He insisted that the party over-promised Ghanaians and has rather impoverished the citizens. This situation he said will hurt the party regardless of whoever leads it into the polls.

Speaking in an interview on Citi TV on Monday, September 18, the immediate past Minister for Environment, Science and Technology however said everything is possible in politics.
“It will be difficult for the NPP to win the 2024 elections. It is a fact that they [the NPP] have over-promised and under-delivered but everything is possible but the NDC is also not giving me any hope.”
“When I was in government, I said the way the NDC had mismanaged the country, we were going to help the president and work so that the NPP would still be there even after forty years and there would be no romantic ideas about the NDC again and now look at where we are. I thought we were going to work and there would be no romantic ideas about Mahama and the NDC ever coming back.”
Prof Frimpong-Boateng also bemoaned the state of leadership in the country and how it has contributed to under-development despite decades of stability after independence.
According to him, the country has not experienced another transformational leader after the first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
“If after twenty or forty years, we are not making any headway though we haven’t had any civil war, drought, or any natural catastrophe and we are in this state, there must be something wrong and it can only be a lack of transformational leadership.”
“We haven’t had any transformational leadership since Kwame Nkrumah,” Prof. Frimpong-Boateng stated.
