The countdown has begun. Across classrooms, libraries and science laboratories, students are sharpening their minds, revising formulas, testing their knowledge and preparing for one of Ghana’s most anticipated academic battles, the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) 2026.

The prestigious competition is set to return with another season of intense intellectual rivalry as some of the country’s brightest young minds compete for national recognition, school pride and the coveted NSMQ trophy.

For participating schools, the journey is not just about answering questions correctly. It is about legacy, reputation and the opportunity to etch their names into the history books of Ghana’s academic excellence.

The organisers have announced that they are targeting 174 schools to compete at the national championship stage, with 27 schools already securing qualification for the ultimate contest.

In the coming weeks, the nation will witness fierce battles in science, mathematics, technology and general knowledge as schools fight for the bragging rights of being crowned champions.

The race officially begins on Thursday, August 13, 2026, with the launch and balloting ceremony, where schools will discover their pairings and begin mapping out their path to glory.

The preliminary stage is scheduled for Thursday, August 20 to Monday, August 24, 2026, before the competition enters the knockout phase.

The one-eighth stage will run from Wednesday, August 26 to Friday, August 28, followed by the quarter-finals from Sunday, August 30 to Tuesday, September 1.

The intensity will rise further as the remaining schools battle for a place in the semi-finals on Thursday, September 3.

Only three schools will survive the long academic marathon to compete for the ultimate prize at the grand finale on Thursday, September 10, 2026.

With past champions setting high standards and new contenders eager to announce themselves on the national stage, the 2026 edition promises another thrilling display of brilliance, strategy and academic excellence.
