Academic City University College has awarded Anita Pokua-Denteh Rockson, a semi-finalist in this year’s National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), a $40,000 scholarship.
Ms Rockson, a student at Wesley Girls Senior High School, will pursue a BSc in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Academic City.
The Academic City Presidential Scholarship recognizes students with excellent academic performance, leadership potential, and a commitment to positive societal impact.
This scholarship covers all four years of tuition, housing, meals, a laptop, a monthly stipend, and transportation for students from outside Accra.
Academic City is a premium STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) and Entrepreneurial tertiary institution set to redefine tertiary education in Ghana and across Africa.
Since our inception, we have emerged as a beacon of excellence in education, committed to shaping young adults into problem-solving future leaders through innovative and transformative learning experiences.
This has resulted in the university being ranked 15th in Sub-Saharan and 2nd in Ghana by the Times Higher Education (THE).
Ms. Rockson’s goal is to improve energy solutions in Ghana by finding alternative ways to generate electricity and reducing reliance on traditional sources.
Her passion for Electrical and Electronics Engineering aligns with her desire to create impactful change in her community.
She expressed excitement about studying in Ghana, noting the importance of understanding local issues firsthand to create meaningful solutions before expanding her work internationally.
She believes Academic City will provide the education and mentorship needed to bring her vision to life.
Ms. Shannan Akosua Magee, Director of Admissions at Academic City, remarked, “Ms Rockson’s story is truly inspiring. While many students applied for the scholarship, she stood out by confidently sharing her achievements and future goals.
"Her dedication to addressing Ghana’s challenges shows her strong character and leadership potential.”
Ms. Magee reiterated Academic City’s commitment to providing a world-class education that empowers students to lead and make positive change.
