The Ghana Police Service have arrested a ride-hailing driver, who was later identified as an off-duty Police officer, for allegedly shooting a male adult at Koans Estate near Kuntunse in Accra on Sunday, 18th August 2024.
The incident occurred around 4am. on Sunday following an alleged confrontation between the deceased, identified as Stanley Ahadzi, and General Constable Smith Gyeke over a disputed transport fare.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy, while the suspect is in police custody as part of the investigation into the incident.
Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare and members of the Police Management Board (POMAB) have visited the family of the deceased to commiserate with them. The police assured them that the incident will be fully investigated and the officer involved made to face justice.
A police clinical psychologist and other officers have been assigned to the family to support them through their moment of difficulty.
"Once again, we would like to assure the public, especially the family, that justice will be served," the police said in a statement.
