Ghana’s 'Rap Doctor’ popularly known as Okyeame Kwame is on a campaign to bring awareness of Hepatitis B to the general public.
The dynamic rapper who previously partnered Okyeame Kofi to form the Akyeame duo some ten years ago now stands tall as the best rapper in Ghana.
His last album ‘M’Awinsem’ which had the song ‘Woso’ swept five awards at the 2009 Ghana Music Awards, including Best Music Video, Artiste of the Year and Hiphop Song of the Year.
Okyeame Kwame disclosed in an interview with DJ Black on the Open House Party show on Joy FM on Saturday that he is paying his due to mother Ghana through his foundation ‘Okyeame Kwame Foundation’ to give free Hepatitis B testing and awareness to the public.
Hepatitis B is a potentially life-threatening blood-borne disease of the liver, which is transmitted primarily by sexual activity or exposure to blood. About 20 percent of those infected progress to chronic liver disease.
He is starting the awareness campaign in Takoradi on August 22 at the Takoradi Market Square and he says it is absolutely free. The foundation hopes to screen about 1,000 people and give medical counseling to people.
He hinted that he has already recorded four songs with Okyeame Kofi in a bid to bring back the Akyeame duo. He said they are still working on the album which he expects to be out soon.
The ‘rap doctor’ is also busy putting his One Mic Entertainment record label firmly on the ground. He has already signed up his own brothers, ‘Bradez’, Morris Babyface and Tattoo.
He was overwhelmed by the performance of ‘Bradez’ who are currently making waves with their ‘Breakthrough' album.
“It feels good to see my bothers make it big in the music industry. I don’t control them, I always encourage them to be the best,” he said.
Okyeame Kwame has won several nominations for his music says he is looking forward to the World Music Awards, the KORA Awards and he hopes to clinch at least two awards at the Channel O Music Video Awards to be held in South Africa.
