The much anticipated “State of the Republic Concert” which was billed to bring Sean Kingston and Fat Joe to Ghana had its fair share of drama, the stuff Hollywood movie are made of. It almost became the “State of Confusion Concert” when organizers were plunged into a state of uncertainty and rescheduling. Sean Kingston pulled out at the last minute apparently because his mum advised him against taking the recommended yellow fever shot before going to Ghana. What a big mama’s boy! But I reckon that the chubby superstar is really afraid of needles because frankly he could have gone against his mum and then later sing ‘Dry Your Eyes’ for his mother. LOL! Well that was not the end of the drama; Fat Joe also suffered from food poisoning in the UK and so couldn’t make it to Ghana on the advertised day. So, the date for the concert was moved to the next day, Sunday July 20 and R&B star, Omarion replaced Sean Kingston as a co-headliner. To cut this Hollywood script short, the organisers of the event, Xclusive Vista Entertainment could finally breathe easy because the two artists stunned audiences with show-stopping performances. Omarion’s dance moves were spectacular but his sexiness was a better spectacle for his screaming female fans. Fat Joe was also really amazing and for a man his size, he surely knew how to carry himself on stage. Surprisingly, Ghanaian/UK rap superstar didn’t show up either although he was advertised to be a apart of the show. Fat Joe apologised, “My people…I love you Ghana…I am sorry. I was sick… but I guess it is better late than never.” He further explained that he couldn’t sleep the whole day because he was thinking about Ghana. Yeah right! He even said that he had a vision and God told him to get his ass to Ghana. Hallelujah! Haha. The two stars were supported by local acts such as, 5five, 4×4, Asem, Kweku-T, Skillionz, Praye and others. The originator of hiplife, Reggie Rockstone blessed the mic a little and the Jamaican diva, Miss Trinity was also in the house with some Yardie love. Although the last minute cancellation and reschedule affected patronage, all in all it was a good show and I can’t wait to see more of such shows in my beloved country. Source:Ghanamusic
