Head of the ICT Directorate at the Ghana Education Service, Emmanuel Kingsley Dadebo says lack of electricity in some schools make it difficult for the government to implement the one-lap-top per child initiative.
Speaking to Asempa News on Thursday, Mr. Dadebo said a lot of schools in the rural areas have been selected to benefit from the one-lap top initiative but these schools lack electricity.
He said the program has been suspended for the meantime to make room for the provision of electricity to most of these schools after which procurement and distribution of the laptops can resume.
Mr. Dadebo added that, the memorandum of understanding stipulates that every school going child must be given a laptop which will be owned by the child. This, he said means government will have to provide laptops every year for school children.
Mr. Dadebo further stated that, as at August 2009, the Ministry had distributed about 1000 laptops to 30 schools, each school having 30 laptops.
The rest of the laptops were kept at the Ministry to give to schools who require replacements due to technical problems that might arise.
