The National Democratic Congress says it will continue to use Sydney’s hit track “Africa money” at their public campaigns despite calls from the musician to desist from doing so.
Sydney Ofori a popular Hip-life artist said he suffered huge losses when his earlier track “scent no” was used by the New Patriotic Party ahead of the 2004 elections.
In order not to suffer similar fate, he has asked all political parties to desist from using his song for their campaigns.
But Baba Jamal Deputy General Secretary of the NDC says the song has now become a public property which can be used by any individual.
“Once we buy with our money, we can play it anywhere especially when we are not using it for commercial purposes.”
In an interview with Joy Fm’s Evans Mensah, Baba Jamal said the party has not officially adopted the song, but conceded the song had been played at various programmes organised by the party.
He said the song is a danceable one with good lyrics, portraying how people abuse their positions for private gains, a message the NDC has been speaking against.
According to him the party cannot be blamed entirely for using the song, since the DJ’s hired by the party for the various programmes are the ones who select the best songs to unsettle the crowd.
Meanwhile, Christiana Love a gospel musician has admitted selling the rights to her hit track “we are moving forward” to the NPP, but says that was only for commercial purposes.
