Police in Tamale in the Northern Region have detained over 30 passengers on board a sprinter bus at Lamashegu in the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly.
The passengers, all foreigners are believed to have been trying to escape the lockdown in Greater Accra and Kumasi, which came into effect on Monday, March 30.

Reports indicate that youth in the area stopped the bus for questioning when it got to a checkpoint set up by the indigenes.

The driver of the vehicle who spoke to JoyNews admitted that the vehicle was indeed traveling to Burkina Faso but got delayed due to some mechanical faults.

He also claimed to have loaded from Kumasi but the break in the journey to fix the car made it impossible to reach Tamale on time.
But the youth who were demanding that the foreigners be tested for COVID-19, blocked the roads and reported the incident to the Ghana Police Service.

The vehicle was subsequently moved to the Regional Police headquarters in Tamale, while all passengers including women and children have been sent to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for the COVID-19 testing.
