The incumbent Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah, has declared his intention to challenge the parliamentary election results in court.
This announcement follows the declaration by the Electoral Commission (EC) of Abdulai Abu Baba Abubakar Sadiq from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as the winner of the highly competitive seat.
The results were announced on Monday, 9 December, nearly 48 hours after the polls closed. Baba Sadiq secured 15,383 votes, narrowly defeating Patrick Boamah, who obtained 14,949 votes.
Speaking to the media shortly after the EC's announcement, Boamah expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome and confirmed his plans to pursue legal action.
He cited irregularities during the collation process and discrepancies in polling station results as key issues requiring judicial review.
While withholding specific details, Boamah expressed confidence in the judiciary’s ability to ensure fairness in the matter.
The contest for the Okaikwei Central seat was among the most fiercely fought battles in the 2024 general elections, with tensions running high during the collation process.
Allegations of discrepancies in the results and disputes over pink sheets delayed the announcement, ultimately favouring the NDC candidate.
Mr Boamah reaffirmed his commitment to pursuing justice through due process, stating, “I know I have won the election. There is no need for violent means to reclaim my seat. We are consulting with our legal team and gathering the necessary documentation to proceed.”
