The Central Regional Director of Education, Ms Rosemond Blay, has urged people in the region to make best use of the good educational institutions provided in the area to produce good scholars.
She urged them to bring back the good days when the region was regarded as "the citadel of education" in the country.
“But unfortunately when you visit a school such as Mfantsipim, Wesley Girls, St. Augustine, Holy Child just to mention a few, and even the University of Cape Coast today you will find that only a few of their student population come from the region," Ms Blay noted.
She cautioned them against living in the region's past glory without making any effort to maintain or improve it.
She made the call at a send-off get-together organized by the Mfantseman District Directorate of Education for eight of its personnel who had retired from active service.
Ms Blay expressed disappointment about results produced by schools in the region in the 2007 Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) and appealed to all stakeholders to help to improve standard of education.
Mr Robert Quainoo-Arthur, Mfantseman District Chief Executive, outlined efforts government was making to ensure uninterrupted flow of water and electricity to the communities in the district.
He appealed to the retirees to place their expertise at the disposal of new teachers who would be posted to the area.
Nana Ataapim Kweenu VIII, Mankrado of Nkusukum Traditional Area and the presiding member of the Mfantseman District Assembly urged the retirees to engage themselves in writing books for the schools.
