President Akufo-Addo and other state officials planted 5 million trees across the country on Friday, as part of measures to ensure Ghana becomes greener.
The initiative which was launched by the Lands and Natural Resources Ministry, in collaboration with the Forestry Commission in April this year, saw several members of the diplomatic corp, players of the Ghana Black Stars and citizens plant a seed to support government's agenda.

Millions of seedlings made up of different tree species were distributed to the 16 regions of the country as part of preparations for the Green Ghana project.
Lands Minister Samuel Abdulai Jinapor, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, British High Commissioner to Ghana, lain Walker, the Colombian Ambassador Turbay Quintero, Andrew Dede Ayew, Minister for Health, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, among others threw in their support to ensure the country can chart the path of going greener.

According to President Akufo-Addo, his administration would ensure the objective to make Ghana greener by plainting 5 million trees is not a one-day event.
"It is an ambitious initiative and we will make the necessary efforts to sustain it. God willing, this event will be an annual one and planting targets will be reviewed upwards every year," he said at the Jubilee House.
